The Oak Ridge Boys Return to “How Great Thou Art” Ahead of ‘Buried Treasures’

The Oak Ridge Boys have released a stripped-down new recording of the classic hymn “How Great Thou Art,” offering another preview of their upcoming album Buried Treasures.

The 10-song collection arrives October 30 through Lightning Rod Records. The new version grew out of tenor Ben James singing the hymn a cappella inside an old church near the Mississippi River. Duane Allen saw video of the performance, the group began bringing the song into its live set, and it eventually became part of the new album.

The Oaks first recorded “How Great Thou Art” in 1967. On Buried Treasures, the group revisits songs of faith, friendship and comfort, including “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Lean on Me,” “Live Forever,” “What a Wonderful World” and “You Are So Beautiful.” The record was produced and engineered by Anderson East and executive produced by Dave Cobb.

The album’s lone newly written song, “Buried Treasure,” was written for the project by Aaron Raitiere. The group will also release an official video for “Live Forever” on October 30.

The Oak Ridge Boys continue touring through the fall, with additional dates extending into 2027.
