LAKE’s remarkable comeback

LAKE made waves in the 1970s with their melodic West Coast rock sound, tight vocal harmonies and a debut album that sold hundreds of thousands of copies. The German group toured the United States and shared stages with Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Santana and Chicago. Their initial run produced LAKE (1976), LAKE II (1978) and Paradise Island (1979).

Longtime lead vocalist James Hopkins-Harrison died in 1991. Years later, original keyboardist and producer Detlef Petersen began reconnecting with bassist Martin Tiefensee, keyboardist Geoffrey Peacey and guitarist Alex Conti, bringing the band’s story back to life. Petersen says he listened to nearly 300 singers while looking for the right fit before discovering Rob Reynolds in Harrogate, England.

Meet Rob Reynolds

Reynolds brings decades of his own music experience to the group. LAKE’s current vocal lineup features Reynolds alongside Ian Cussick, and the new record unites members from the band’s classic era with their current voices. The group enlisted drummer Kenny Aronoff to record drums in Los Angeles, while Detlef Petersen continued handling songwriting and production.

FOUR, released June 5, 2026, carries the group’s signature melodic rock sound forward with a modern recording. Tracks include “Boy on a Mission,” “No Regrets,” “Hey Sam,” and “Ordinary People.” The latest single “Ordinary People” is being promoted to radio in October and explores the danger of false promises and misleading leaders, according to the band’s official release.

Jam Man brings Rob Reynolds onto the show for a conversation about the music, the band and the career that brought him here. Watch the complete interview above—no highlights substituted for the full recording.
