Over 50 years together. Three original members. And after 23 years, a brand-new Zebra album is on the way. Randy Jackson joined Jam Man for a one-on-one Rocking With Jam Man interview ahead of the release of V.
There’s no other way to put it: Zebra has survived just about everything the music business could throw at a band. Randy Jackson, Felix Hanemann and Guy Gelso have been together since the band’s New Orleans beginnings in 1975. While countless other rock bands broke up, swapped singers or splintered into rival lineups, Zebra is still the same three guys.
Those three built their following the hard way, going from Louisiana clubs to Long Island and playing hundreds of shows a year. Local radio support for songs like Who’s Behind the Door? helped lead to an Atlantic Records deal. Their 1983 self-titled debut went gold, and songs like Tell Me What You Want remain rock favorites.
NEW ZEBRA MUSIC AFTER 23 YEARS
Now comes V, scheduled for November 13, 2026, through Flatiron Recordings. It’s Zebra’s first new studio album since 2003’s Zebra IV. Among the songs is Walk With You, co-written by Randy Jackson and KISS frontman Paul Stanley more than 30 years ago. Legendary producer Jack Douglas also reunited with the band, producing five tracks for the upcoming record.
Five decades of rock, a record fans have waited more than two decades to hear, and the same lineup still making music. Not bad for three guys from New Orleans.
