Swedish heavy metal stalwarts RAM have released “Abattoir,” the latest single from their upcoming album Against, due October 9 through Metal Blade Records.
Vocalist Oscar Carlquist calls the track pure speed metal and points to the aggression of early Exodus and Accept as touchstones. The new album takes a more grounded lyrical approach than 2019’s The Throne Within, centering on resistance, pressure and refusing to comply when pushed too far.
Against is the band’s first full-length in nearly seven years and was designed around a more classic, direct recording philosophy. The eleven-track record includes “Obsession,” “Ghost Emperor,” “One Vs. All,” “Abattoir,” “Out of Control,” “Leaving,” “Against,” “Night Blade,” “Rising Again,” “1984” and “The Final Hour.”
RAM also announced that longtime bassist Tobias “Tobbe” Petterson is stepping down after 17 years. He will play his final show with the band at the October 9 record-release show in Gothenburg, with Desekrator joining as his replacement.
