Power Take Off’s Scott & Ayden Theis Talk Father-Son Rock, ‘Cornfields at Midnight’ and Switching Roles Onstage

Power Take Off band featuring Scott and Ayden Theis

Power Take Off’s Scott and Ayden Theis joined Rocking With Jam Man for a full father-and-son conversation about the band, their Wisconsin roots, life on the road, “Cornfields at Midnight,” and the unusual live-show twist that lets father and son trade places between the microphone and drum kit.

A father-and-son rock band that can literally switch jobs

Power Take Off is built around frontman Scott Theis and his son Ayden, the band’s drummer. That family connection is more than part of the backstory. It is built directly into the live show. Scott spent years behind a drum kit before moving out front, while Ayden followed him into music and developed into the drummer of the band. During Power Take Off performances, the two can switch roles, putting Scott back on drums while Ayden takes over the microphone.

That setup gives the band something most groups simply do not have. In the Rocking With Jam Man interview, Scott and Ayden get into what it is actually like being father and son while also being bandmates, how they handle each other creatively, and what happens when the line between “Dad” and “bandmate” gets blurry.

From Wisconsin farmland to “Cornfields at Midnight”

The conversation also digs into Power Take Off’s Wisconsin background and the story surrounding “Cornfields at Midnight.” Scott is a fourth-generation farmer as well as a longtime musician, and the band’s music carries a lot of that real-life Midwest identity instead of trying to hide it.

“Cornfields at Midnight” takes that history and puts it into a rock song built around changing hometowns, disappearing farmland and watching places that once felt permanent begin to look completely different. The single was produced by Chuck Alkazian at Pearl Sound Studios and follows the momentum Power Take Off has continued building with its recent releases.

Scott and Ayden on writing, touring and what comes next

Jam Man also talks with Scott and Ayden about how songs change from the first idea into the finished Power Take Off sound, what each of them brings to the band, touring together as a family, and how Ayden is developing his own identity as a musician while playing alongside his father.

The interview gets into the fun side of the relationship too: who is harder to live with on the road, what they think of each other as musicians, and whether the younger generation sometimes has to remind the older generation that the music business has changed.

It is the kind of conversation that works because Power Take Off is not just a group of musicians sharing a stage. There is an actual family story happening inside the band at the same time, with Scott bringing decades of experience and Ayden growing into his own role right in front of him.
