Interview JAM MAN x CAYDEN HENSCHEL — THE MINDSET OF A WRESTLER
I just wrapped up an interview with Cayden Henschel, and this one hit different.
This wasn’t just about wins, losses, or highlights — this was about what it really takes to live the life of a wrestler.
From the start, you can tell he’s built different. Wrestling isn’t just something he does — it’s who he is. And when we got into the mindset side of things, it got real fast.
We talked about how wrestling is one of the only sports where there’s nowhere to hide. No teammates to bail you out. When you step on that mat, it’s just you — your preparation, your discipline, and your mindset.
And not everyone is built for that.
We got into the reality that wrestling will break you mentally before it ever breaks you physically. The grind, the pressure, the weight cuts — it’s constant. And he didn’t shy away from that. He talked about the moments where things get tough, where doubt creeps in, and how pushing through those moments is what separates champions from everyone else.
As someone who’s training 5 hours a day myself, I had to ask him about the grind — and he made it clear: what you put into this sport is exactly what you get out of it. No shortcuts. No luck. Just work.
One of the biggest points we hit was off-season training. That’s where the real separation happens. Anyone can show up during the season — but the ones who stay locked in when nobody’s watching? Those are the ones who level up.
👟 FROM WRESTLER TO BRAND
We also got into the business side — and this is where things get interesting.
Cayden didn’t just build himself as a wrestler — he built a brand.
His CHGear line has turned into something you don’t just wear on the mat — you see it everywhere. I told him straight up, I’ve been rocking the black and yellow pair, and everywhere I go they start conversations. Tournaments, matches — people asking about them nonstop. I’ve seen people go from asking about them to actually buying them.
That doesn’t happen by accident.
We talked about where the idea for the zipper and Velcro sneakers came from, and how CHGear is starting to move beyond just wrestling gear into something bigger — more like a lifestyle brand.
And yeah… I had to let him know I’m gonna need a fresh pair for the off-season and next season.
🌍 WHAT’S NEXT
We also touched on the future — not just for him, but for wrestling as a whole.
With wrestling content blowing up online and more fighters from Ultimate Fighting Championship backgrounds coming from wrestling, the sport is getting more attention than ever. The question is — what’s next?
Could there be a crossover into MMA? Is wrestling finally getting the recognition it deserves?
Those are questions that are starting to feel real now.
🧊 FINAL THOUGHT
At the end of the day, this interview comes down to one thing:
Wrestling isn’t for everyone.
It’s a sport that demands everything from you — physically, mentally, emotionally. And if you’re not all in, it will expose you.
But if you are?
That’s where greatness starts.
