SABATON are heading back to the battlefield with “Berserker,” a new single due November 6 on major streaming platforms. The Swedish metal band’s latest historical inspiration is the legendary lone Viking warrior who held a bridge against English forces at the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066.
The group says the idea had been sitting in singer Joakim Brodén’s unfinished-song library for years. Bassist Pär Sundström describes it as an epic last stand against impossible odds—a natural fit for SABATON’s storytelling.
The band has opened pre-saves ahead of the release. For now, the song is an upcoming single, not a track we’ve heard in full.

ABOUT "BERSERKER"
“Berserker” started many years ago as an idea in Joakim’s library of unfinished songs, but it was one he kept coming back to because it needed time to grow.
“The story of the Berserker at Stamford Bridge has been on our radar a long time. It combines everything that has inspired our songwriting over the years: an epic last stand, overwhelming odds and a warrior whose name has been lost to history but whose actions became legendary!” //Pär
Berserkers were fearsome Norse warriors famed for their ferocity in battle. Legend has it that at the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066, a lone Viking warrior held off an entire English army, unleashing his fury upon anyone who dared to cross his path. He is said to have killed numerous soldiers before being struck from below by a spear.
