Omen//Skye vocalist Nick Troisi joins Remzi “Jam Man” Yates for a direct conversation about “Vanquish,” the Maryland metalcore band’s new single, the real-life battle behind its lyrics and the decision to keep fighting when addiction and depression make survival feel impossible.
The discussion goes beyond a routine release announcement. “Vanquish” is rooted in Troisi’s own experience with addiction, but its message reaches anyone who has faced the moment when surrender and survival seem like the only two choices left.

“VANQUISH” TURNS A PRIVATE BATTLE INTO A FIGHT SONG
Released through Arson Theory, “Vanquish” appears on Omen//Skye’s latest EP, The Thoughts That Haunt Us. The song confronts addiction, depression and suicidal thoughts without romanticizing any of them. Its central idea is simple but heavy: reaching the lowest point does not have to mean the story is finished.
Troisi developed the verses and the overall concept from his own struggle with addiction. Instead of hiding behind a fictional character, he uses the song to capture what it feels like to believe everything is over—and then make the conscious decision to get back up and fight again.
A SONG BUILT BY THE BAND
The foundation of “Vanquish” was largely written by former guitarist Brian Baugus. Joshua Grzywacz wrote the chorus lyrics, while Troisi shaped the verses and the song’s emotional direction. Drew Licurgo and Six:Eight Audio handled production, helping the band combine cinematic atmosphere, crushing riffs and melodic hooks without losing the raw weight of the subject.
That balance matters. The music hits hard enough for a metalcore crowd, but the melody gives the message room to stay with the listener after the final breakdown.
CHOOSING LIFE WITHOUT SUGARCOATING THE DARKNESS
“Vanquish” does not pretend recovery is easy or that one decision erases everything that came before it. The power of the track comes from its refusal to offer a fake happy ending. It recognizes how close the line between giving in and fighting back can become, then plants its flag on the side of survival.
For Troisi, that message is personal. For listeners, it can become something larger: proof that a song can acknowledge the ugliest part of a battle while still giving somebody a reason to take one more step.
OMEN//SKYE’S MOMENTUM KEEPS GROWING
Omen//Skye have continued building their name through high-energy live shows and a modern metalcore sound that mixes familiar aggression with cinematic detail. The band has earned support slots alongside If Not For Me, Tallah, Resistor, Yosemite In Black, Waking the Cadaver, The Wise Man’s Fear and Softspoken.
The current lineup features Nick Troisi on lead vocals, Joshua Grzywacz on vocals and rhythm guitar, Dillon Thatcher on drums, Dominic Buie on bass and Kenny Baquol on lead guitar.
On September 13, the band is scheduled to support ENOX at Metro Gallery in Baltimore, Maryland, as it continues pushing toward a wider national audience.
