Interview With Thrash Legend Gene Hoglan

Gene Hoglan has spent decades building one of the most respected careers in heavy metal history, and in his latest conversation with  “Jam Man”  on Rocking With Jam Man, the legendary drummer opened up in a way fans rarely get to hear.

Known worldwide as “The Atomic Clock,” Hoglan reflected on his time with Dark Angel, Death, Testament, Strapping Young Lad, Dethklok, Fear Factory, and countless other influential projects that helped shape modern metal.

One of the biggest moments from the interview came when Hoglan discussed the roots of thrash metal and stated that without Metallica, thrash metal as we know it would not exist. Coming from one of the true pioneers of the genre, the statement carried major weight and showed the respect he still has for the bands that helped ignite the movement in the early 1980s.

Gene also spoke in depth about the return of Dark Angel, the emotional impact of losing guitarist Jim Durkin, his work with Slash, being viewed as metal’s ultimate “hired gun,” and what it means knowing pieces of his legacy live across so many legendary bands and records.

The interview also dives into:

  • Why metal continues thriving without mainstream radio support
  • His major health transformation and reversing diabetes
  • Touring life after decades in extreme music
  • Chuck Schuldiner’s legacy
  • The evolution of modern metal
  • What still drives him creatively today

This is one of the deepest Gene Hoglan interviews you’ll hear anywhere.
