Interview with Scary Movie Star Jon Abrahams
Jon Abrahams Talks Returning as Bobby Prinze in the New Scary Movie, the Wayans Family, Comic Cons, Star Wars, and What’s Next
Jon Abrahams has been part of movies that people still quote, still rewatch, and still bring up at Comic Cons decades later. From playing Bobby Prinze in the original Scary Movie, to Denny Byrnes in Meet the Parents, Dalton in House of Wax, and even a deep-cut role as a Naboo Flight Crew member in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Abrahams has built the kind of career that hits comedy fans, horror fans, and pop culture fans all at once.
Now, Bobby Prinze is back.
With the new Scary Movie arriving this Friday, Abrahams joined Rocking With Jam Man to talk about returning to the franchise, why the timing feels perfect, and what it is like stepping back into a horror-comedy world that helped define a whole era of parody movies.
The big question going into the new Scary Movie is simple: are audiences ready to laugh at everything again?
The Wayans family is back involved with the franchise, and that alone has fans expecting chaos. Abrahams talked about what the Wayans brothers bring to comedy, how their rhythm is hard to duplicate, and why Scary Movie works best when nobody is safe from getting roasted.
We also talked about the danger of comedy today. Everyone says they want edgy comedy back, but the second the joke lands too close to home, people get mad. That is exactly why this new Scary Movie feels like it could become a major conversation. Horror is bigger than ever, but it has also become very serious. Every movie seems to be about trauma, grief, symbolism, social media, cults, demons, AI, legacy sequels, or creepy dolls. That gives Scary Movie a giant target.
Abrahams opened up about returning as Bobby Prinze after more than 25 years, how horror has changed since the original movie, and whether Bobby has changed with it. The original Scary Movie roasted Scream, teen slashers, pop culture, and everything around it. This new one has a whole new world to attack — M3GAN, Smile, Terrifier, Longlegs, influencers, true crime, TikTok, cancel culture, and Hollywood’s obsession with bringing everything back.
And yes, we got into the question fans want answered: how many more Scary Movie films could they make if this one hits? As long as horror keeps reinventing itself, there will always be something to parody.
Since Abrahams does a lot of Comic Cons, we also talked about the questions he gets asked over and over, the strangest things fans have brought him to sign, and what it is like seeing fans still scream Bobby lines all these years later. Horror and comedy fans are loyal, but Scary Movie fans are their own kind of wild.
We also hit a deep-cut topic: Star Wars. Abrahams appeared in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace as a Naboo Flight Crew member, which makes him part of one of the biggest franchises in movie history. We asked how that happened, what he remembers from being around that production, and whether fans bring up the Star Wars credit at conventions.
Of course, we had to talk Meet the Parents too. With a new movie, Focker-In-Law, on the way, Abrahams was asked if there is any chance Denny Byrnes could return. Since Scary Movie and Meet the Parents both came out in 2000 and both franchises are now alive again, it almost feels like the year 2000 is calling him back.
The interview also covered House of Wax, Terrifier 3, horror fans, directing, what kind of projects he wants to do next, whether he has plans to direct again, and what still excites him at this point in his career.
And because this is Rocking With Jam Man, we ended with the important stuff too: death row meal, the horror villain that would be the worst roommate, whether Bobby Prinze would be famous or canceled on TikTok, and which fanbase would survive a horror movie the longest.
Jon Abrahams is back as Bobby Prinze in the new Scary Movie, hitting theaters this Friday.
