Emily Wolfe Talks “Power,” Jesse Hughes, Deftones, Touring, Her Signature Guitar & What’s Next

Austin rock singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Emily Wolfe joins Rocking With Jam Man for a wide-ranging conversation about her newest music, the experiences behind it, life on the road, guitar tone, her signature Epiphone and what comes next.

One of the biggest topics is “Power.” Wolfe explains how the song grew out of years of small frustrations and moments that left her feeling powerless — what she describes as the accumulation of little “paper cuts.” Instead of letting that weight sit, she turned it into a direct, hard-hitting song built around reclaiming control.

Finding the next version of Emily Wolfe

Wolfe also talks about working with producer Gavin Brown and how that relationship helped her rebuild creatively. The conversation digs into the difference between chasing a sound and finding one that actually feels honest, along with the pressure that comes with evolving while people already have expectations of who you are supposed to be as an artist.

Another major chapter is “Lips,” her collaboration with Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal. Wolfe discusses what it was like working together in the studio and why the experience stood out from the way she had typically created music before. It opened the door to a different kind of collaboration while still keeping her own identity at the center of the song.

Deftones, The Temptations, Dashboard Confessional and the music behind the music

The interview also gets into Wolfe’s influences, which stretch well beyond one corner of rock. She talks about artists including Deftones, The Temptations and Dashboard Confessional, and how very different kinds of songwriting, emotion and production can all find their way into what she creates. For Wolfe, the goal is not to recreate an old version of rock and roll — it is to make something that still feels dangerous, immediate and alive.

The signature Sheraton, tone obsession and life onstage

Of course, the guitar talk gets serious too. Wolfe breaks down her connection to her Epiphone Sheraton signature guitar, the punishment her instruments have taken onstage and the amount of thought that goes into her live tone. She talks about harsh frequencies, pedals, switching systems and why getting a guitar sound right can become an obsession.

Touring, backstage life and the next record all come into the conversation as well. Wolfe talks about the constant movement of being on the road, current and upcoming shows, and continuing to build toward new music without sanding away the raw edges that make her sound hers.
