Carmine Appice and Cactus are digging into the blues roots that helped shape hard rock. Their new video for “300 Pounds Of Joy” puts a high-powered spin on the Howlin’ Wolf classic, with King’s X guitarist Ty Tabor and Artie Dillon among the featured performers.
The song appears on Temple Of Blues II – All-Stars, the Cactus album released earlier this year through Cleopatra Records. The project follows the first Temple Of Blues installment, but this time Appice set out to make a record centered on the blues standards that influenced generations of rock musicians.

From Howlin’ Wolf to Heavy Rock
Appice has highlighted the original song’s drum groove as a major part of its appeal. The accompanying video adds a boxing-inspired story, bringing a different visual punch to the band’s version.
Temple Of Blues II features an impressive collection of guests across its 11 tracks, including Eric Gales, Billy Sheehan, Pat Travers, dUg Pinnick, Steve Morse, Joe Lynn Turner, Rudy Sarzo, Alex Skolnick, Dee Snider and Tracii Guns.
Where to Hear the Album
