Deep Blue Something’s Todd Pipes joins Rocking With Jam Man for a full conversation that goes way beyond “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” That song made the band a household name in the ’90s, but Todd has a career full of stories that fans of rock, alternative music and metal might not know.
More Than “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”
Deep Blue Something formed in Denton, Texas, and broke through worldwide with the classic single “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” It reached the top three in the United States and number one in the United Kingdom. But Todd and his bandmates made a lot more music than one radio hit. From the early recordings through Home and Byzantium, their story includes hard work, major-label drama, and music that deserved a closer listen.
Jam Man sat down with Todd to go beyond the same familiar questions and explore the larger career: what it takes to keep a band together, how recording changes over time and what really happens behind the scenes when a band has a massive hit.
The Unexpected Drowning Pool Connection
One of the most interesting chapters is Todd’s studio work with Drowning Pool. He has discussed working with the Texas metal band around early sessions for “Bodies,” the song that would become a worldwide metal anthem. The official Sinner album has separate production credits; Todd’s exact early involvement is a story best told by the man who was in the room.
The connection also opens the door to talking about Dave Williams, Drowning Pool’s original frontman, whose voice and presence left a huge mark on heavy music. It’s a side of Todd’s career that fans who only know his radio hits might never expect.
New Music: Lunar Phase and “Who Put Bella in the Witch Elm?”
Deep Blue Something is not just revisiting the past. The band released Lunar Phase in 2025, a full-length album built around the guitar-driven sound that inspired them at the start. In 2026 they followed with “Who Put Bella in the Witch Elm?”, a darker single based on a real unsolved mystery. The range makes it clear why Deep Blue Something’s story is still being written.
