GWAR’s Blöthar Talks ICE Raids, Alien Cover-Ups, Trump Supporter Backlash and Destroying Venues
Blöthar the Berserker joined Rocking With Jam Man for a wild conversation about illegal aliens, government secrets, political outrage, GWAR’s LGBTQ+ following and the destruction the band has left behind during more than four decades on Earth.
When you interview the leader of GWAR, a normal conversation is not an option.
Blöthar the Berserker recently joined 15-year-old interviewer Remzi “Jam Man” Yates on Rocking With Jam Man for a discussion that covered everything from ICE raids and UFO disclosures to political backlash, ruined concert venues and the band’s strong connection with LGBTQ+ fans.
The interview began with a question that only makes sense when speaking with GWAR: Should a group of self-proclaimed illegal extraterrestrials be worried about ICE raiding one of its concerts?
Blöthar responded in full character, imagining what might happen if federal agents attempted to interrupt a GWAR performance. The conversation then expanded into aliens, UFOs and the information governments have released—or allegedly kept hidden—from the public.
Despite governments discussing unexplained objects and possible extraterrestrial activity, GWAR is rarely mentioned in official reports. Blöthar addressed that apparent omission while offering his own perspective on what humanity has been told about aliens and government secrecy.
Political Backlash and GWAR’s Onstage Executions
One of the interview’s most revealing moments came when Blöthar discussed the outrage GWAR has faced over its theatrical onstage killings.
For decades, GWAR has mocked, dismembered and executed exaggerated versions of politicians, celebrities and public figures from across the political spectrum. According to Blöthar, however, supporters of Donald Trump created a level of backlash the band had not experienced from other audiences.
The controversial performance brought intense online anger and threats from people who apparently did not understand—or did not accept—that political satire and fictional executions have always been part of GWAR’s live show.
For a band that has spent more than 40 years slaughtering presidents and cultural figures onstage, the reaction stood out.
The discussion explored whether the backlash changed anything for GWAR, whether some public figures are considered off-limits and why people sometimes react more strongly to fictional stage violence than to events happening in the real world.
Has GWAR Ever Ruined a Venue?
Jam Man also asked what happens when a venue books GWAR without fully understanding the show it has agreed to host.
GWAR concerts are known for massive costumes, elaborate props and enormous amounts of fake blood sprayed over the audience. That creates a memorable night for fans—but potentially a nightmare for venue owners, cleaning crews and anyone who scheduled an event in the building the following morning.
Blöthar discussed venues losing their minds once the blood began flying, along with the stains and damage GWAR has left behind over the years.
The conversation covered walls, floors and other surfaces that did not immediately return to their original condition after the band departed. It also raised an important question: Has GWAR ever left a building looking so destroyed that someone could mistake it for an actual crime scene?
For many fans, leaving a GWAR show covered in blood is a badge of honor. For venue management, it can mean discovering exactly how difficult that blood is to remove.
Why LGBTQ+ Fans Love GWAR
The interview also explored GWAR’s connection with gay and LGBTQ+ fans.
Although GWAR is built around grotesque monsters, violent satire and complete chaos, the band has long attracted people who identify with its rejection of conformity and authority.
Blöthar discussed why gay fans connect so strongly with GWAR and why the band’s shows have become a welcoming place for people who may feel judged or excluded elsewhere.
Underneath the blood, vulgarity and theatrical destruction, GWAR has always encouraged fans to reject expectations, embrace who they are and laugh at the people attempting to control them.
That combination of absurdity, freedom and rebellion has helped GWAR reach audiences far beyond traditional heavy metal.
More Than Four Decades of Chaos
Throughout the interview, Blöthar remained exactly what fans expect: outrageous, unpredictable and completely committed to the GWAR universe.
At the same time, the conversation showed why the band has survived for more than four decades. GWAR is not simply a metal band with costumes and fake blood. It is an ongoing combination of music, theater, comedy, horror, political satire and visual art.
Politicians change. Governments change. People become offended by different things. GWAR continues finding new targets.
